Next month we will celebrating Banned Books Month. We do this every year because I believe censorship is dangerous to a free society. Freedom of speech must be preserved as long as it does not cause insurrection or physical harm. Sadly, most of the books being targeted in the last decade are being targeted for political, religious, or cultural reasons.
Lilly Kauffman, Orlando Bartro, Linda Cahill, and I will be back with interesting articles and recipes to celebrate the arrival of fall.. Our vegetable for September is green beans. When I was growing up my dad was an avid gardener, and I spent many evenings snapping surplus green beans for my mom to flash freeze for our winter table.
We’ll have our September quiz, reading recommendations, streaming article, and our new series, “Dare to Believe” and “What’s in a Word?”
For September I will be reviewing Entrenched by Linda Lee Blakemore. It’s a powerful book about a taboo subject in “polite society,” sexual abuse. We will also have a Q&A with the author.
