March 2021 in This Awful Awesome Life

We hope you enjoyed the February 2021 issue of This Awful Awesome Life. Many thanks to all our contributors.

Spring is on its way. At least that’s what the calendar says.

We have a special spring quiz for you in this month’s issue about things that don’t happen in the spring

This month is dedicated to my son Christian. If you read last month’s issue or follow us on Facebook, you know Christian passed away in February from complications caused by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was 28 years old. He was a private person, but there are things I want everyone to know and remember about him. Christian loved music. He wrote a monthly music column for the magazine. He often suggested topics for articles with a musical theme. Several articles this month were inspired by his ideas.

In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re featuring Women in Music. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF) recently released the names of the sixteen nominees who will be considered for the five spots open for artists/bands this year. For the first time ever, seven women are on the ballot. We’re looking at all sixteen nominees, the women who have been inducted into the RRHOF, and a few women for future consideration.

Also, in honor of Women’s History Month, I reviewed Free to Be: Ruth Bader Ginsburg The Story of Women and Law by Teri Kanefield. We also have reading recommendations for kids and adults. Don’t forget to check out our “Author Page” to find your next great read or to see if your favorite authors have written anything new.

For St. Patrick’s Day, we’re featuring the music of Ireland. This month in film, we selected five historically inaccurate films and tell you what Hollywood purposely got wrong in exchange for a more interesting story. We’re also featuring guilty pleasures – those harmless luxuries or the nerdy things we like but are afraid to let people know about. What are your guilty pleasures?

For those of us who love sports, baseball season will be starting soon. This month we’re featuring a certain song we all know from the 7th inning stretch.

This month in “The Twelve Months of Pie,” I made Vegan Potato Leek Soup served with a delicious and colorful beet salad. Perfect for Lent and your St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

Samantha Sayers has been missing since she disappeared on August 1, 2018, after a day of solo hiking at Vesper Peak near Seattle, Washington. Sam was raised in the Erie, Pennsylvania area where her parents Ron and Lisa still live. Her family is exploring all avenues of inquiry to find and bring her home. In the face of such an enormous challenge, they have chosen hope. Please keep sending positive thoughts to Sam and her family. As promised, we will be displaying a yellow ribbon for Sam on the opening page of each issue of This Awful Awesome Life until she is home.

If you are a person of faith, please pray for her safe return to her family. Because we are an online publication, we can update this article with any news. We will also post information on our Facebook page. Thank you!
